What Do You Think When You Think “Garage?”
When hearing the word “garage,” my husband begins to grunt like a deranged maniac. He is and always has been a “car guy,” which explains why we have three garages on our property. While I love our garages almost as much as he does, our minds are not always in the same place when we hear that magical word….”garage.”
For me, hearing that word conjures up images of my kitchen and the appliance garages we installed during our kitchen remodeling project. If you are in the midst of a remodel, I really recommend adding these garages to your “wish list.” Not only do they look great, they are quite functional as well. As you can see in the pictures below, they do a great job when it comes to hiding away all of my little appliances and keeping my kitchen looking sleek and clean.
If you are planning to install an appliance garage or two in your kitchen, be sure to do some planning ahead of time. Ideally, you should have an outlet inside of your appliance garage. This way, you can keep all of your appliances plugged in and just pull them out as needed. In the garage shown below, you can see that I have an electric can opener, blender and chopper all in one garage. These always remain plugged in and I slip them in and out of the garage whenever I need them. There is also a rarely used waffle iron hiding behind those appliances that I don’t keep plugged in, as plugging it in automatically turns it on, and that is a topic for an entirely other blog posting.
Unfortunately for my husband, he forgot about my request to include an outlet within the appliance garage and he installed the cabinetry before running wiring to the area. So, he had to pull out the cabinets and redo the work in order to please Her Highness (that would be me) and giver her the outlets she desired. If you ask him, the effort probably didn’t seem worth it. But, for me, the convenience of an outlet inside the appliance garage has made this feature in my kitchen far more enjoyable. Besides, I am sure he would pull out an entire wall of cabinets in one of his garages if he forgot to install an outlet for his air compressor, so I am sure he understands.
